Throughout my career as a photographer, I have had the privilege to accompany mountaineers on the most beautiful and spectacular mountains of our planet.
This generation of freeriders has been inspired by the snowboard and skateboard culture. The movement influenced the ski industry, creating a new generation of boards and skis, adapted to this new way of skiing.
Snowboard made an appearance on the scene in the 80ies. As a young photographer, I met nearly all the top riders who introduced me to their peers.
Marco was an exceptionnal snowboarder and climber. Even though he died at the age of 23, he is up there with the greatest, including his mentor, Jean-Marc Boivin.
This expedition was my first encounter with Antarctica. The objective: the first ascent of the Holtanna (2650m) in the Queen Maud Land region of Antarctica.
Jean-Marc was living in Chamonix with his family. I got to know him and was his photographer for about 10 years, before his tragic accident in 1990.
